FYI, let's limit the comps to the first 2 pages, I need this thread to be used for chatter and what games members would like to pick up or split. Service thread getting way to much chatter. Ty.

Hot Lines: Today's best MLB bets

Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers (-133, 9.5)

The Texas Rangers are the new wild card leader in the American League, and they don't look like they are going to wilt in the heat.

The Rangers (66-50) took the last two of a three-game weekend set with the Boston Red Sox, moving one-half game ahead of the Red Sox (66-51) in the wild card standings. They have surged to the top with outstanding play at home.

With a handful of good young pitchers and using speed as much as power to generate offense, Texas is 16-5 at The Ballpark at Arlington since June 30. During that span, they are 6-1 in home series with four straight series wins.

The Rangers have allowed three runs or less 12 times during their home hot streak.

The Twins have lost 10 of their last 14 road games.

Pick: Texas

Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates (+115, 9)

Pittsburgh backers should be happy about Sunday's rainout in Chicago. Any day without another L in the loss column is a win for Pirates fans.

The National League Central cellar dwellers have dropped 12 of their last 13 games and 17 of their last 20 overall. And of course the club won't soon forget Friday's 17-2 drumming at the hands of the Cubbies. The uneven outcome was large enough to be considered one of the franchise's worst of all-time.

"I am extremely disappointed in the way the team has performed of late," team president Frank Coonelly told the Pittsburgh Post Gazzette. "... We believe in the plan and direction that we're moving, and we're confident that we're moving forward as an organization."

Translation: We're looking forward to selecting Bryce Harper with the first overall pick next draft.

Pick: Brewers

Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

Streaking

Tommy Hunter (Texas Rangers)

The Rangers have a stable of good young pitchers, and the burly right-hander may be the best of the bunch.

Hunter has worked season-high innings in each of his last two starts - both on the road - bouncing back nicely from a rough outing Aug. 1 versus Seattle. He's allowed one earned run or less in five of his last six starts, going at least six innings in each.

Coming off 7 2-3 scoreless innings at Cleveland, Hunter caught the eye of Indians manager Eric Wedge.

"He worked both sides, he was down," Wedge told the Rangers' web site. "He really worked his breaking ball early and mixed in his changeup as it wore on. We had a lot of quick outs and that was because of his command. Another thing that stuck out to me was his poise out there. He seemed very relaxed."

Tommy Hanson (Atlanta Braves)

The rookie righty was hot before the All-Star break, then cooled off a bit. He is back in rhythm again.

Hanson is 3-2 in five starts since the break and the Braves did not score in both losses. He has 30 strikeouts and just six walks in that stretch.

He has won his last two outings, fanning 14 in 12 2-3 innings while giving up just three earned runs.

Kevin Correia (San Diego Padres)

The right-hander has been highly inconsistent but is in one of his better stretches of the season. The Padres have won three of his last four starts.

Correia is 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in that span, working at least six innings in every outing. It is his second-longest run of quality starts this year.

Correia also has not allowed a homer in his last six starts.

Slumping

Brian Bannister (Kansas City Royals)

Bannister has been bombarded by light-hitting teams in his last two outings.

Facing Oakland and Minnesota, the right-hander has given up 14 runs and 16 hits in just 10 innings. He surrendered a five-run frame in each game.

"The last two starts, I haven't been the same guy," Bannister told the team's web site. "The pitches haven't been crisp and my command hasn't been quality."

Livan Hernandez (New York Mets)

The veteran junk tosser is in the same boat as Bannister, roughed up by bad teams in his last two starts.

In consecutive road losses against San Diego and Arizona, Hernandez has been pummeled for 12 runs and 14 hits in just nine innings.

Throw in seven walks and his WHIP (walks + hits per inning) is an awful 2.33.

Baseball cash cows: Hottest trends in the majors

Damn Yankees

Even with Sunday's 10-3 loss at Seattle, the New York Yankees have been worth the high price for the last month.

Sunday's loss as a -174 favorite ended a five-game winning streak for the Yankees, who have baseball's best straight-up record since the All-Star break.

The Yankees are 23-7 since the break with winning streaks of eight, seven and five games. They have been favored in all but three games and carried a price of at least 2-1 eight times.

On Monday, the Yankees are -184 at Oakland with A.J. Burnett on the mound. That is the highest price Burnett has had on the road since his first start of the season at Baltimore, where he was -196.

Under the radar

It's been a season-long trend, but the Texas Rangers continue to play under the total. Oddsmakers are lowering the number, but Texas has still played below the total in seven of its last eight contests.

The tendency is even more pronounced at the Ballpark in Arlington. The under is 26-7-1 in Texas home games since the beginning of June.

The Rangers host the Minnesota Twins on Monday with the total set at 9.5.

Working overtime

Sharp bettors weren’t shocked by the Marlins’ 10-run explosion yesterday against the Rockies’ Aaron Cook.

Florida has soared over the total in eight straight games and 11 of its last 12.

The club leads the majors in runs (86) and batting average (.317) in the month of August. Of course over bettors will also tell you that Florida’s 5.00 August ERA has helped produce winning tickets.

The Marlins don’t play again until Tuesday when they visit the Houston Astros.

Monday, August 17th, 2009

4:05 pm est 1:05 pm pacific

Line: Atlanta(-160)

Rating: EZ FREE WINNER

In this contest, my money is on the Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta is coming off a loss on Sunday night, but they have still
won six of their last eight. The Diamondbacks are just 54-64 on the
year and they have lost three straight, allowing 21 runs in the
process.

The Diamondbacks have Max Sherzer on the hill and does have some
solid numbers(7-6, 3.94) but in the world of what have you done
for me lately, he has an ERA of 6.19 in his last three starts.
I also want to point out that in his last two road starts,
Sherzer has gone just 9 1/3 innings of work, allowing 9 runs and
13 hits along the way.

Atlanta goes with young gun Tommy Hanson and his 7-2 won/loss
record and his rock solid 3.05 ERA. He has been just as consistent
at home, where he has gone 4-1, the team has won five of his
six home starts, and his ERA is at 3.41.

This will be Hanson's first start against Arizona this season while
Sherzer will be making his second start against the Braves. His
first one is one he definitely wants to forget, allowing a whopping
8 runs and 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Take Atlanta
one more time.

On Monday night the Bonus Play is on the Over in the Kc-Chicago Whitesox game.Rotation numbers 915/16 at 8:10 eastern. We ended the week big and tonight this comp play comes with a 13-1 totals system. What we want to do is play the over for certain road dogs of +140 or higher that are off a road dog win and scored 4 or less runs on 5+ hits if tonights opponent is also off a road game where they scored 4 or less runs. This solid system averages 13.6 runs per game.In the pitching matchup we have B.Bannister for Kc. and he has been hit hard over his last 3 outings with a 7.45 era.In 16 innings vs the Sox he has allowed 16 earned runs on 23 hits.Chicago will have Mr.Perfect Buehrle starting tonight.Though he pitched well in his last start he has struggled in his last 2 home appearances allowing 12 earned runs in 12 innings on 23 hits. Both these teams have seen these 2 pithcers several times so there wont be any surprises.I would wait till game time as this total may get down to 8.5.On the Monday late phone from we have the AL Game of the month, Backed with a 20-3 system as the lead play.Coming off another solid week this big play should start us in the right direction. On Monday night Ill be in studio between 8-9 Eastern on the Anthony Pierno Sports Talk show at wsia.fm 88.9 with another nice Bonus Play and some football/baseball previews. For the Bonus Play take the Over in the KC/Chicago game.BOL RV-

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins Jacksonville Jaguars
+3-116 at 5DIMES > 12h.
Bonus Play from Doc’s Sports. #279 Take Jacksonville over Miami (Monday 7:30 pm WFOR) It is really hard to ignore Jacksonville’s preseason record under Coach Jack Del Rio. He is 18-6 straight-up in the preseason and getting points is just icing on the cake. He is also impressive ATS going 16-8 in those same 24 games. The Jaguars have lost the last two games to Miami in the preseason and this is certainly a make or break year for Coach Del Rio. They will come out strong tonight and win this game in what will likely be a low scoring affair and taking the points is the only side to consider. Doc’s Sports has 38 years of handicapping experience and continues to beat the books night in and night out.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles Los Angeles Angels
-105 at BOOKM > 11h.
The Angels and Orioles square off in the fourth and final game of their weekend set with the Angels leading two games to one. Baltimore won in the opening game on Friday night by a score of 16 to 6 with the Angels bouncing back on Saturday with a 5 to 1 victory and on Sunday they needed 13 innings to decide the contest with LA coming out on top 17 to 8. LA is 69-45 overall this season for +22.5 units of profit including 33-23 on the highway for +14.4 Units. The Angels are ranked number 1 in hitting with a batting average of .289 averaging 5.7 runs per game this season with OPS of .803. Their pitching has not been quite as dominating with a ranking of 26 and an ERA of 4.83 this season. Opponents have a batting average of .276 and an on base percentage of .344. Baltimore is 48-68 overall on the season for -16.0 units including a record of 30-29 at home for -0.6 units. The Orioles are ranked 5 in hitting with a batting average of .269 averaging 4.6 runs per game. Pitching has let them down with a ranking of 29 and an ERA of 5.04. Opponents have a batting average of .284 and an on base percentage of .349. LA will send Ervin Santana to the bump with his 4-2 record on the road with an ERA of 4.50. Over his last three outings he has a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 3.86. The Orioles will counter with David Hernandez who is 2-2 at home with an ERA of 3.22 this season. His last three starts have seen him post a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 5.79. LA is 21-9 (+9.9) when playing against a team with a win percentage of 38 to 46 percent this season while Baltimore is 8-32 (-19.7) when playing against a team with a win percentage of 54 to 62 percent in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons. We will back the better team in the role of underdog or even in the role of small favorite if the line happens to move against us here. Take the odds or lay the short price as the Angels continue to play well and grab the series win on Monday over the Orioles.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles Baltimore Orioles
-110 at BODOG > 11h.
1* Take the Baltimore Orioles on the Moneyline, This pick falls into one of my top MLB systems and the Orioles have the better pitcher on the mound Monday night. David Hernandez (4-4, 3.81 ERA) has pitched solid over his 4 home starts this season with an ERA of just 3.22 and he allowed just 6 hits and 3 earned runs in his only start against the Angels this season while lasting 6.7 innings. Ervin Santana (5-6, 6.38) struggled in his last 2 road starts allowing 13 hits and 9 earned runs over 12 innings and he also struggled in his only start against the Orioles this season allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs over just 5 innings. Santana has allowed 4 or more earned runs in each of his last 3 starts against the Orioles while lasting more than 5 innings just once. The Orioles are hitting .295 as a team at home this season and I look for their bats to stay hot Monday night. Take the Baltimore Orioles as my MLB Bonus Play for Monday night.

(905) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
(906) NEW YORK METS
Take "(905) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS"

The Giants have had their chance to close in on the division leading Dodgers but have not done so. With the Dodgers losing six of their last 10, so have the Giants and an opportunity. The Giants are one game back in the Wild Card Race too, with Colorado leading the way. But if you think the Giants have had some bad luck, that's nothing compared to the Mets. The Mets lost yet another key player as David Wright went down with a concussion after being struck by a pitch from Giants pitcher Matt Cain. Wright, who leads the team with a .324 BA, joins Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado on the DL and is possibly done for the rest of the season. The injuries have sunk the Mets chances this year as they now trail the Phillies by 11 1/2 games. Veteran Livan Hernandez starts today for the Mets and he's 0-2 his last three starts (8.40 ERA) and 7-7 on the season (5.28 ERA). Joe Martinez will make just his sixth major league appearance for the Giants and has a 2-1 mark on the year with a 6.00 ERA. The Mets just don't have much to offer these days and with the loss of their leading hitter they will have to rely on pitching and they just don't get that here on Monday with Hernandez. Take the Giants.

Game: Arizona Diamondbacks @ Atlanta Braves

(902) Atlanta Braves -$161

(Listing Hanson and Scherzer)

Arizona's starting pitcher Max Scherzer had a good outing against the offensive less Mets in his last outing, but prior to that start Scherzer had allowed nine runs in his previous two starts. I think Scherzer is starting to wear down as his young arm is not used to pitching this many innings. The Braves starting pitcher Tommy Hanson is most likely the National League's rookie of the year. Hanson dominated the Nationals on Tuesday to end their eight game winning streak and I look for a strong performance by him here against the Diamondbacks. Arizona is only 2-6 in Scherzers last eight road starts against a team with a winning record and the Braves are 5-1 in Tommy Hanson's last six home starts. Play on Atlanta.

Wunderdog NFL

Game: Jacksonville at Miami (Monday 8/17 7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Jacksonville +3 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

One of the most successful coaches in terms of playing to win in the NFL-X has been Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio. Del Rio has posted a 17-7 mark over the last six preseasons, and has not had a losing year with five of the six seasons finishing at 3-1! This year he has no reason to change that. In fact, his job is on the line this year so if anything, there's more reason for him to put a gloss on things. Tony Sparano lost his opener a year ago then won the next three. But he may have a different agenda this season as he needed to instill a winning culture at Miami in his initial season at the helm. The Dolphins are off an 11-5 season, and this one will be used to do more evaluating than winning. Getting a field goal on a strong preseason coach like Del Rio is a gift. I'll go with Jacksonville here.

Paid and confirmed!

GL!

I read somewhere Wunderdog went 23-4 last week?

I believe he has two 4* MLB plays tonight as well
